Here we are on the 2 month anniversary of our practice run for Crosby's liver.   So for no news.  I know all of you keep waiting to hear and we will most definitely keep all of you in the loop when the call comes.

What has Crosby been doing while waiting?  Learning new things!  His latest achievements are all related to mobility - learning to get around the floor with his commando crawl as you saw in the last blog entry and around the room with his walker. Of course Mom takes plenty of video to share with Crosby's Team!

We had Crosby (plus Wes and Corbin) outside in the sunshine yesterday to try out the new wheels courtesy of Patty Morris (we really appreciate and USE all of the fun toys she's given Crosby over the last 15 months!)  We found out he can also wheel around the living room and really enjoys the new perspective.  The walker will do a good job strengthening those legs for more milestones to come.

I also get asked if Crosby is still top on the list for new livers?  The answer is probably not.  I looked at the latest data today and here's what I found: 488 kids under the age of 18 are waiting for livers today in the United States.  112 of them have PELD scores of 25 or more.  Our region (8) has 7 kids waiting with scores of 25 or more.  St Louis Children's alone has 3 (including Crosby) with scores that high.  View the Waiting List for Organs   Crosby's blood type is O+ which is the most common blood type - that's good!  But it's also bad because type O livers can also be used by type A, B, AB, and O recipients.  This link How Do Livers Get Allocated? takes you to an informative article describing how the allocation process works.

So.... I'm not at all confident of a call coming soon.  However, the list can move very quickly and a liver that will work for one child will not work for another.  Just because a liver is offered does not make it the perfect liver. So that creates a great big question mark for planning around the Hoots' Household.

One very important thing Crosby's Team continues to do while waiting is raise funds for the Children's Organ Transplant Association in honor of CrosbyH.  This allows us to save for the rainy (expensive!) days ahead.  All funds are earmarked for Crosby's use before, during, and after transplant.

See the photos and videos below of the recent "Shave a Redneck" fundraiser organized by Alan and Mindy Remmert of Stonington, IL.   Those rednecks raised a whole lotta money with that hair!!!  We had lots of fun and really appreciated everyone coming out to support COTAforCrosbyH!!

As always, thank you for the daily well wishes!  We hope to see you all on April 23rd at Buffalo Wild Wings Forsyth location and May 19th at all Decatur Monicals locations as they donate a % of sales to COTAforCrosbyH.

March 2014 Update

Crosby, along with mommy and daddy, made his monthly trip to St Louis for Liver Clinic yesterday.

Not too much news to report:  Labs are stable, no medication changes, weight is up a little bit (17 lbs 10 oz), and he is looking quite well to his doctors.  I know all of you on Crosby's Team keep wondering if we have any news about his transplant.  The sad answer is no.... we won't know anything until they call with a potential liver for him.  I did ask the doctors if they've done any transplants since our first call 7 weeks ago and surprising to me the answer was no.  Nothing since that false alarm on Feb 1st.

But we have much to be grateful for.  Crosby's health is stable and he is his usual happy self.  His itching is under control with the help of two medicines (Rifampin and Atarax).  He is growing (slowly but surely) thanks to that pesky feeding tube.  He is making progress on his Physical Therapy thanks to Miss Lindy and Miss Tina.  Watch the video of him learning to commando crawl.  This is a huge improvement for him!

The next video is of him standing.  His little arms and legs just don't have the muscle strength they need to support his body fully.  But he tries and tries and tries!

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and well wishes for our sweet baby.  We can't wait to share the news when we get that call for his new liver!!!

There are two fundraisers coming up - please put Apr 23rd and May 19th on your calendars.

Apr 23rd is at Buffalo Wild Wings (Click for Flyer) and May 19th at Decatur Monical's locations.  We hope to see you there.  The COTAforCrosbyH campaign is 60% of the way to the goal with a hopeful July 2014 campaign wrap-up.  We appreciate you sticking by our side this past year!!

It's been one year since Crosby's Kasai operation.  Have you been keeping up on the latest news?  Several new blog entries have been posted recently at http://cotaforcrosbyh.com/blog/26.

I also noticed on the ticker on the left that we are only $89.84 away from the $30,000 milestone!!  That is FABULOUS!!  Only 60% to our goal which we hope to reach by July.  Thank you so so so much to Crosby's Team for the ongoing well wishes and contributions.  Being able to send a request to COTA to cover some of those huge hospital bills is such a blessing.

I will post another update after Crosby's appointment with the St Louis Liver Team next week.
